It is worth being a witness to the special cause of providing a wheelchair to a disabled, physically challenged person, and it is often very difficult to assess whether the receiver is smiling or shedding tears.
Imagine a perfectly fit person suddenly falling from a higher level or having suddenly been hit by a speedy vehicle and becoming totally helpless due to injuries, facing terrible conditions, trying to stand up on his own feet, or even being able to take a step to walk. And seeing such an unfortunate bereaved person, some even having lost vital parts such as legs, feet, arms, hands, or in severe pain with a broken spine, hips, etc. It easily awakens a sense of being a nice human being! It is bound to raise prayer in our minds to do something. The thought of helping such sufferers is very natural.
A visit to the ISIC in our Vasant Kunj, where scores of such were seen, made us feel so sympathetic and determined to offer some service. The thought of offering a wheelchair to such poor needies became a hit when we discussed it amongst our team in the Citizens Forum.
Since 2019, after we finished our project of conducting Havans all over Vasant Kunj to help build a majestic Arya Samaj building, we decided to change the pattern of our service to our citizens. We decided to offer five wheelchairs every fortnight – to these poor patients.
And, thanks to our honourable citizens, we succeeded in our mission since then, except during Covid times of about two years. Over 200 wheel chairs have since been delivered to the poor needies.
Starting with prayers, we try to learn the problems of the patients in their own versions. Then in the new wheelchairs, the donor helps the patient sit in the new whee-lchair with his own hands and earns the blessings of the patient. After all the patients are offered their new vehicle, start a very special Ardass Prayer for their better times ahead. And then sharing karah prsasad/ tea/biscuits with them.
Citizens Forum-VK is grateful to ISIC for providing a list of such five persons in advance, every fortnight, with full details so we could ensure these wheelchairs were handed over to the eligible needies. They also provide new wheelchairs, duly personified/modified as per their needs. And charge only half the cost – Rs.5995.- per chair. The other half is paid by the Social Department of the ISIC.
With such a positive response from our citizens, we do hope to continue serving the helpless patients.
