In recent weeks, relentless heavy rain battered city roads. For residents of our society and the surrounding areas, the situation has escalated into serious safety concerns. Continuous downpour has not only exposed the weaknesses in the already fragile infrastructure, but also turned the daily commute into a treacherous experience.
The roads around our society, already riddled with potholes and uneven surfaces, have now become almost impassable. It’s difficult to navigate deep bumps, especially for two-wheeler riders. Submerged in water, the potholes increase the risk of accidents. Several motorcycle accidents have been reported recently, with one particularly tragic incident where a rider suffered severe head injuries after falling on these roads. A concealed bump, worsened by the rain, led to a horrific crash that resulted in an open-brain injury. Lack of proper road maintenance and the absence of safety measures, such as warning signs or barricades, lead to accidents. Despite serious accidents, there has been no immediate response from the authorities to repair or implement safety measures.
The road leading to Gejha is another dangerous route, notorious for its numerous potholes, makes it nearly impossible to cross safely. Waste material, like RaddiI, further contributes by obstructing drainage and exacerbating the risk of accidents.
One of the major factors worsening the road condition is the poor drainage system in the city. Most roads near our society have clogged drains, with stagnant water that becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes, adding a public health risk on top of the road safety issues. Drains have been left open for months, with no signs of repairs in sight. The service lane surrounding Silver City has been dug up and abandoned, leaving it unusable for commuters. As a result, drivers are forced to take long U-turns just to reach the main road. Service roads, properly maintained, would greatly ease the daily commute for residents.
Authorities have been slow to respond to public outcry and the daily risks faced by commuters. Temporary fixes, such as filling potholes with gravel, have been attempted but are insufficient.
Residents have been vocal in demanding immediate action from the local government. The need for a comprehensive plan to repair the roads, improve drainage, and ensure regular maintenance is more urgent than ever.
Until the roads are repaired and made safe, drivers and riders must exercise extreme caution when navigating these hazardous routes. Without swift and effective action, the danger of accidents and injuries will continue to loom large over our community.
