Anu, or Anu Didi as many of us call her, is the tailor who sits opposite Gate 2. No matter the weather, you can find her sitting quietly at her sewing machine, altering, repairing and stitching clothes handed over to her by Hamletians.
Tragedy struck Anu in August – end when her sewing machine was stolen. Her source of livelihood was gone. I got a chance to meet her the next day when I went to pick up a few clothes I had given her. She was visibly upset & kept repeating, “Ab main kya karu?”.
Roohi (14123) & Geeta Kapoor (8043) took cognisance of Anu’s distress & came forward to begin a fundraising for a new machine for her. About 15 residents voluntarily came forward and contributed towards the purpose.
A substantial corpus was generated within a day. The amount was given to Anu, with due respect. This small effort by Hamletians has helped her tide over the distraught caused and get back into earning her livelihood.
