I would like to compare two visits I had this December. Number one was a physiotherapy clinic and it was full. Due to cold weather and sedentary lifestyle so many with frozen shoulder, knee pain, neck pain, stiff joints and many more other things. My rough estimate was these were people right from 30’s to 80’s. Some were taking warm compresses, doing exercises, and using various others physiotherapy tools.
My other visit was on a nice sunny afternoon, when to soak in the sun I decided to venture to E block park, and wow, it was a view to see people in their 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and maybe even 80’s so actively using the play gym area there. The way this lady who was probably in her late 70’s with a mask was rotating the wheel with both her hands made me think of one thing, “that this woman will never get frozen shoulder”.
Thereafter, I started noticing all equipments like how it’s specialised for each body part, right from upper body, shoulders, to the legs. Few minutes of each and you are done. And here we spend so much money to get membership of a gym. Please note I’m not against these gyms nor against physiotherapy clinics as there are times we need them. But my point here is that if we have such facilities available to us in every block why we are not utilising it. Cold weather, covid, flu, pollution, money for gyms is not an excuse, like how I witnessed these people were there in the afternoon and many were wearing masks and using these free equipments.
Ladies and gentlemen if that 70 year old woman can do it, we have no excuse!! And again I would say it’s not about age, it’s about choice, and remember every choice has a consequence. If you choose to laze around, watch TV all day, not move your body then be ready for the warm compresses or else get inspired by the woman I was inspired by her and get moving as free gyms are just few steps away from you.
