A burning torch in the hands of a monkey does more harm than good!
माकडाच्या हातात कोलीत!
– A famous Marathi proverb.
(This post is not about hurt
ing any animal lover’s sentiments, kindly note)
Can we connect this proverb with the menace social media has created around us today?
After all we humans have an evolutionary relationship with monkeys and we do have a common ancestor!
Jokes apart, it’s better we understand the rules for our safety at the earliest and take care of ourselves!
Social media is a boon to many important aspects of life today, like education and business but the negative impact it is creating in the younger generation is undeniable. The fraudsters taking disadvantage of the ignorance of people, educated and uneducated equally, is real and much closer to home than we think.
At Gyandeep we have been getting complaints from parents about children ‘s addiction to mobile phones and distraction from studies. And then, as always, by some divine coincidence, we were connected by our volunteer Aditi Chopra, to a wonderful speaker, Pooja Malhotra ji, Member, technical committee, National cyber safety and security standards.
Pooja ji conducted an excellent session on cyber security at Gyandeep. It was a very informative, interactive and interesting session! We all learnt a lot about how to keep ourselves safe and secure in the cyber world and deal with its addiction. The parents and children shared their experiences openly as Pooja ji created a very comfortable atmosphere in the room by role play and real life story telling. She also extended her help regarding any safety issues in the future. We are very grateful to Ms. Pooja Malhotra ji for sparing her time on a weekend for us. We highly recommend her book “ Be safe in Cyberspace”. We thank the Arya Samaj Mandir Green Park for providing space to Gyandeep for carrying out the activities and educational programs. There are wonderful people who want to do good to society and we are here to connect them with the deserving. Stay connected and stay blessed alway
