Gurupurabh Celebrations In LB

by Tanay Goyal (T-16/ 002, LB)

Guru Purab marks the start of the Sikh way of life, it marks the birth of one of the most affluent and greatest persons named Sri Guru Nanak. There are indications in the old chronicles that the gurus who succ-eeded Guru Nanak celebrated his birthday.

I have been a resident of lotus boulevard for the past 8 years and I can proudly say that this event is celebrated by everyone regardless of their religion, the guru purab nagar kirtan is one of the biggest events in our society. Children and adults of all ages band together to clean the LB roads with a sense of comradeship and vigour.

The birthday of Sri Guru Nanak highlights the charity of many and a huge langar is set up in the society with the help of donations from Residents. Every year the langar constitutes of Chole Kulche (excluding covid years) but this year an ambitious idea to provide naans was put forward and it definitely was appreciated by the Sangat which was in for a treat this time around.

The festival brings our society together, one can see that almost all the towers put out tables with refreshments for the people who have been in the nagar kirtan since 5am in the morning.

The warrior dances and cheerful atmosphere invigorates everyone with enough energy to tough out such a taxing journey.

Everyone gave their input by contributing in various ways such as helping in the cleaning, providing refreshments during the Nagar Kirtan or helping distribute Parshad in the langar.
