The celebrations started with a morning procession called Prabhat Pheri in our society. Not only the residents but also friends and neighbours joined us. Throughout the parade, devotees sang
hymns called Shabads. It was a great special gathering to start the celebrations.
A three-day celebration called Akhand Path was next. During these three days, the holy book called “Guru Granth Sahib” was read continuously. It is a social gathering where devotees sing different types of shabads. We c decorated the Guru Granth Sahib with flowers in the procession and followed the traditions for the parade – made five armed guards carry Guru Granth Sahib representing the Panj Piaras. We also held the Sikh Flag called Nishan Sahibs.
A beautiful stage was created and suitably decorated where the whole path, devotees and attendees sat and chanted. The combination of yellow and red flowers to beautify the stage was mesmerizing. Precautions of safety were duly taken as there were senior citizens as well as kids who attended the event. Gurupurab celebrations also comprise a big food festival to put everyone in the mood to enjoy and celebrate food. The menu consists of a proper dessert, including aate ka seera, jalebi, malai ladoo and kaju barfi. The main course comprises an array of Punjabi dishes.
The event was attended by the residents soaked in religious fervour.
