Gurupurab Celebrations In Hamilton

Guru Nanak Jayanti was celebrated in Hamilton Court complex on 3rd December arousing the feeling of brotherhood, compassion and oneness of God. On the auspicious occasion every year, residents of all the three complexes, Hamilton Court, Regency -II and Windsor Court come together to celebrate, pay reverence, listen to the shabad-kirtan (hymns) and participate in the langar sewa (community food service). A day which residents of three communities eagerly look forward to and is celebrated with a lot of fervour, devotion and love. The celebrations hold a special place in the resident’s heart, especially the children, who come forward to participate in all the activities and thus absorb the values, tradition, ethos of our Indian culture.

The day starts early for the organizing team, decorating the stage where ‘Guru Granth Sahib ji’ is to be placed, music system, planning for the sitting areas, organizing the food counter and other minute details. The prasad, food served in the langar is cooked by the residents in their home-kitchen and imagine when dal, rice, ghobi, kheer, dahi, salad from 200 + houses is mixed together, the taste is divine. The air is filled with mesmerising, enchanting shabad-kirtan sung by Ragis invited from the Gurudwara, where-in they sing Guru Nanak Dev ji preaching which are revolved around three core principles to live a fulfilling life, Naam Japna (meditating on God’s name), Kirat Karni (earning an honest living through hard work and honest means), and Vand Chakna (sharing with others and performing selfless service).
