Guru Nanak Jayanti Celebrated In Boulevard On A Grand Scale

Guru Nanak Jayanti, also popularly known as Gurpurab, is the most important festival for the followers of the religion of Sikhism. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji.

Gurpurab is celebrated on Kartik Poornima, the 15th lunar day in the month of Kartik according to the Hindu calendar, and usually falls in the month of November by the Gregorian calendar. This year, it was celebrated on Monday, 27 November.

2023 marked the 554th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji. LB residents participated in the seva with immense enthusiasm. As preparation for Nagar Kirtan, the entire outer road of about 1.5 kilometres was washed late into the night; in this seva, women and children played a commendable role.

The celebration started with the Prabhat Pheri from the clubhouse at 5:30 AM. Devotees took the path that surrounds all towers singing bhajans. They halted at several towers where other devotees served them Prasad.

The Prabhat Pheri ended at the clubhouse at 8:30 AM where all relished the Kadha Prasad which had an exquisite flavour due to the ‘Bhav’ of devotion with which it was prepared. This was followed by Guru ka Langar in the lawns organised by a group of devotees named Guru Ki Fauj which was founded on the three golden rules of Sikhism:

Naam Japo: Remember God’s name.

Kirat Karo: Work and earn following the values of truthfulness and honesty.

Vand Ke Chhako: Share resources and support the whole community irrespective of colour, caste or creed.
