Green Resolution

MCG commissioner PC Meena has advised the residential societies to adhere to the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, from February 10 onwards. He has advised them to be encouraged to start segregation of waste and use compostable materials in the parks and society gardens.

The compost pits will be dug in the parks or society gardens; where the residents will be implored to throw the compostable waste, even the school students will be taken to the sites and encouraged to segregate the waste and use the compost for the green Earth.

Gurugram dumps 100 tonnes of garbage at the Bandhwari Landfill on a daily basis which is around 2.5 million tonnes of waste and is 37 meters in height according to the MCG officials. Thus to reduce the ‘throw away mountain’, the decision is taken and residents of Gurugram are taught to take care of their greens.

In Sushant Lok C block, the SLRWA with the help of SAHAS has already commenced the task by making such a compost pit in the Community Centre, where anyone may take the compost and reuse it in their garden at their residence, free of cost. They have started composting in a natural way from the 1st of February and nearly have succeeded in processing 1.5 tons per day of wet waste and thus keeping that much waste away from the garbage mountain! If everyone follows sincerely, soon we will be a zero waste society!

Some residents wanted to bring in their garden waste as the garbage guys don’t take them and it becomes havoc for the garden owners to deposit them otherwise, the SAHAS agreed to have it at the community centre site, and utilize it for the green Earth.
