S Block Park is one of the best maintained parks in South Delhi. It is spread over three acres and divided in to four parts. SBWS maintains it with the help of five staff mem-bers and a guard, who is deployed to keep an eye on vagabonds, stray dogs and residents who bring their pets in the park. The guard would invariably request the pet owners to remove the poo, extricated by their pets and to keep the pets on leash.
We must add that there are at least three residents who follow the protocol, but regretfully, many owners just try to shoo away the guards or start fighting .
Requests by concerned fellow residents also fall on deaf ears.
Coming back to the green initiative, SBWS decided to grow grass in the football ground , which is a barren patch for the last sixty years. Lot of dust used to arise when children/adults played football or cricket in the ground, creating problems for the nearby houses.
It was a challenge as the ground had to be closed for about 45 days so that area could be cleared of wild grass, stones & debries.SBWS got two gates erected at both the gates & closed the park.
Thereafter five labourers were engaged to plant he grass & remove the wild grass. Truckloads of manure & sand were strewn & this portion of the park has become all green.Initally there was some resistance but now residents are appreciating the effort after seeing a green carpet.
Hopefully, the ground shall be opened around 15th Oct. for playing activities.
