Great Backyard Bird Count Walk Conducted Successfully in DLF Phase-I by GuruJal on February 16, 2025

Location: Block-F, DLF Phase-I, Gurugram, DLF Phase-I witnessed an engaging and insightful bird-watching event on the morning of February 16, 2025, as part of the Great Backyard Bird Count Walk. Organized with the objective of promoting awareness about urban biodiversity, the event saw enthusiastic participation from birdwatchers and nature lovers. A Global Movement called the Great Backyard Bird Count is a global citizen science movement that runs every year for 4 days in Feb 14 Feb to 18 Feb. The citizens across the world to contribute to bird count so the scientists can use that data to understand biodiversity in various regions. The GuruJal conducted bird-watching walk was conducted from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM, with 12 dedicated participants exploring the avian diversity in the region. Facilitated by Anisha and Pulkit, and coordinated by organizers Faraz and Niyati, the event provided a platform for bird enthusiasts to document and identify local bird species using modern applications like Merlin Bird ID and eBird. During the walk, participants recorded a diverse range of bird species, reflecting the thriving biodiversity within urban landscapes. Some of the notable species observed include Yellow-footed Green Pigeon, Black Kite, Eurasian Collared Dove, Rose ringed Parakeet, Indian Robin, Rufous Treepie, Red-vented Bulbul, Red-whiskered Bulbul, Indian Sparrow, Common Myna, Jungle Babbler, Ashy Prinia, Purple Sunbird and many more. The event not only deepened participants’ understanding of urban avian species but also emphasized the importance of conservation efforts through citizen science initiatives. Participants appreciated the informative and interactive nature of the event, expressing interest in future bird-watching initiatives.
