Gone With the Wind – Tale Of 2 Kitties

The next day was completely different… the same lawn that was full of meows and chuckles and fights of the kitties the previous day, was now filled with an eerie silence. The fountain stood empty and sad. The cheer of the garden was replaced by an uneasy calm. However, we decided to be happy with the ones we had… present moment, wonderful moment! (Thich Nhat Hahn)

Soon Kallu and Brownie arrived with Meowth and all seemed well again. They played and entertained us, while the kids ensured the best cat food for them. Neighbors soon started visiting us, with their kids to play with them. And then came all sorts of “Aunty” wisdom… “The mom will soon abandon them. You should look for good homes for them.” That did strike a chord but not now, maybe in another month’s time…we thought.

That very evening, they came and played a lot with us, but the very next morning, to our horror and shock, Kallu disappeared!! We frantically searched for him everywhere but he was nowhere to be found. No, no dead body this time, no stray dog attacks…just plain gone…gone with the wind.

Sadness swept over the whole house, once again. “Where is Kallu?” my son exclaimed. “What about your theory of ‘survival of the fittest’?” cried my daughter. “He was the fittest, mom, how could he die or disappear?” This set me thinking…No, it is not survival of the fittest but ‘the hand of God’…God is above all scientific wisdom. “God saves whoever He wishes to save,” I murmured. Gloom prevailed for another day till little Brownie cheered us up, probably saying, “If I can do without Kallu bhaiya, you can too.” We consoled each other with the new theory of ‘Hand of God’ and began afresh, enjoying our time with them. They lived beautifully together, bonding well, hunting and chasing squirrels, mice and pigeons. Fun times came again.
