The Newly elected GKRA Management Committee in Association with Help & Care Society and Samavar decided to ring in the festive season with celebration of ‘International Elders Day’ for the first time in GK-I on Sunday 1st October 2023. Seniors gave an overwhelming response to the invitation by turning out in large numbers and whole heartedly participated in the various activities. Area Councillor Ms. Shikha Rai and SHO Ajit Kumar Upadhayay graced the occasion.
All seniors above the age of 85 were Felicitated and presented a Shawl, Shri P.N. Garg of S-452, GK-1 who celebrated his 100th Birthday last month was the star of the show. He narrated a few of his memories. On being asked did he see Mahatma Gandhi, he said he had even met Sardar Patel in an energetic response.
On 14th December 1990 UN passed a resolution that 1st October every year shall be celebrated as International Elders Day, to spread awareness about the changing challenges. Elders are living History, what today we read about Gandhi ji in History Text books, many in the hall must have seen Gandhi ji with their own eyes.
Elders are also the custodians of Culture; on every auspicious occasion it is the Elderly one turns to for guidance for the correct procedure. Most children get their first understanding of Religion from their Grand Parents.
The packed hall had seniors glued to their chairs till the very end when a Sumptuous Dinner Hosted by Samavar Restaurant was served. Seniors were entertained by Live Singers and Tambola. Towards the end seniors danced merrily to the Live Songs of their choice, many seniors also sang a few songs. As a parting Memento everyone was handed a Coffee Mug with GKRA, International Elders Day and the Sponsor Indus Homes printed on it. Kudos to GKRA President Sanjay Anand, General Secretary Bimal Kapoor, Cultural Committee Chairman Pradeep Garg and Team GKRA for a very thoughtful and well organised show.
