The Man Who Transformed GK-I Police Station
After a two-year stint in GK-1 PS SHO Ajit Kumar Upadhaya, as is the norm was transferred to Burari. In all the years of covering the GK-I PS this is the first time an out-going SHO has been given such an overwhelming Farewell. It was well deserved as Ajit Kumar will be remembered for many pioneering initiatives and Policing successes.
The two years Ajit Kumar was in GK-I, he solved many crimes like house break-ins, phone snatchings, car thefts etc. His diligent investigating methodology ensured that Agarwal Medical Center was finally booked for malpractice and criminal negligence the Medical center was involved in.
He was instrumental in setting up a Jury System wherein he formed a group in eminent senior residents to iron out domestic disputes among family and neighbours. Encouraged by Jury experiment’s success he created a special informal desk TPPO (Today’s Public Police Officer) in the police station. In this every day a senior resident volunteered to attend to local complaints from 10:00 am till 4:00 pm. Many disputes were settled as people were more comfortable in the presence of a civilian.
The Night Vigil programme by encouraging Pan GK RWA’s to pool in resources to barricade all eight entry / exit points, thus bringing a significant drop in car thefts and drunken rash driving in late night hours.
The setting up of a fully equipped Digital Library, Skill Development Programme and Gym in the PS premises in association with EWA (NGO) has transformed lives of many deserving girls and students .
