The GKIIWA celebrated our 77th Independence Day on the 15 of August‘23 with fervour and zeal. A spirited procession was carried out by the residents, executive committee members and children with the National flag in their hands and chants of Vande Mataram on their lips. The entire colony resonated with the slogans and energy of the freedom walk. The Tikona park was the focal point of the festivities where people gathered in large numbers, after registering themselves at the entrance and collecting their food coupons.
The flag was hoisted by our Councillor Ms Ashu Thakur along with the CR Park SHO Ritesh Kumar and retired Defence personnel. The cultural program commenced with patriotic songs by Ms Ritu Khut followed by a dance and musical show by the children of the NGO, Prajna Foundation. The reverberations from the efficient music seemed surreal and drew out patriotic emotions. The students from Garib Niwaj school run by Gurdwara Nanaksar, performed a Shabad kirtan for the peace of entire humanity. They also demonstrated their nationalist feelings by presenting a patriotic song. K R Mangalam school also contributed in the program through the theme of Unity in Diversity of lndia. Students of another NGO, Udayan Care too showcased good talent. Last but not the least, members of GK 2 Welfare Association also gave a dance performance of high voltage. The celebrations were especially marked by the significant engagement of various religious institutions of GK2 like the Sanatan Dharam Mandir, the Arya Samaj, Gurdwara Nanaksar and Gurdwara Singh Sabha, when they distributed Kheer to all at the venue.
The function concluded with distribution of refreshments to the residents and special food packets provided by Culinaire restaurant to the program participants. It was a day filled with joy and brotherhood. We thank all residents who stepped forward to make this celebration so memorable.
