Routine ruins life, variety vitalizes life. A firm believer of this adage, Ssukham B Grewal, a resident of E Block GK-2, has rather successfully explored all the talents that she possesses in the short span of her life so far. Ssukham discovered her love for food at an early age through the various adventurous cuisines that her father introduced to her when she was just four years of age. Ssukham continued to develop her taste buds savouring the global gastronomical delights as she traversed the world in pursuit of higher education. Ironically, it was not food in which Ssukham chose to initiate her career.
After graduating from Stanford University, she came to Delhi in the early 1990s to be with her grandmother and worked with several Real Estate behemoths like CB Richard Ellis, Cushman & Weikfield and DLF. After spending over two decades in a highly rewarding career in the Real Estate industry, Ssukham was moved by her love for children to teach at the prestigious Vasant Valley School for about two years where she received commendations for her outstanding work. It was however during the Covid induced lockdown that Ssukham shifted gears and took a plunge into her favourite food business. She identified a void in the thriving DIY Food kits business during that period when the restaurants were shut after she realized that the standard kits available online lacked authenticity, did not provide complete ingredients and often lacked the nutritional value of the food.
Her business acumen and concern for the customers prodded her to fill this gap by launching online cookery classes and developing innovative and comprehensive DIY kits for Asian food, which not just provided wholesome, authentic and nutritious meals but were also aesthetically packed using sustainable material. Her goal was to help customers create an easy, quick, delicious and nutritious meal in under fifteen minutes. She also rolled out packaged food condiments to compliment her food kits. One thing led to another and Ssukham soon launched Chilly oil as her maiden product in Sept`20, she was quick to expand her product basket for condiments by adding sauces, curry pastes, jams to her branded offerings. Using the finest ingredients in all her products, Ssukham keeps her products free of preservatives. She has even created variants where she retains the original flavor of the dish without the use of onion and garlic.
Her efforts have paid off well and she takes pride in reading out some of the most memorable and heart-warming customer testimonials that she has received. She recently attained the pinnacle of her glory when she was bestowed upon an award by the Times Hospitality for the Best Woman Restaurateur second time in a row. Prior to this, she had received the Times Hospitality Icons Award in 2021 for Thai Food Condiments and DIY Kits. Her motto is simple – good food should be available to all. Among her other accomplishments, she has done courses on CAD Programming and Fashion Designing. She received an award for amateur designing in 1990. Not least of all, Ssukham has also won a local Beauty Pageant in 1993. Her husband is a hotelier who has wholeheartedly supported her in her endeavors. We hope she continues to explore her multifaceted persona and wish her the very best for all her future accomplishments.
