GJCSCF Held Talk On Post COVID Precautions

GCSCF in association with Gulmohar Centre organized a talk on Post Covid Care and Boosting Immunity on 15 December 2022 at Gulmohar Club 4 PM onward. The Chief guest and speaker of the day was Dr. Daya Upadhayay, MD Associate Prof. of Medicine, University of California, Sans Francisco USA. She has more than 25 years experience in clinical Pulmonary disease and critical care medical practice with clinical focus in lung nodule, lung cancer, asthma, covid and other lung diseases. She has also served as a professional faculty of Stanford University for 14 years. We are proud of her achievements and success as she is daughter in law of one of the owner member and veteran journalist late Shri V. Upadhyay, resident of B 55 and sister in law of Mr. Praveen Upaddhyay.

Meeting started with welcome address by the President of the forum Mr. Y. Sahay. He gave a brief account of guest of honor Dr.D.Upadhyay’s achievements and success. Mr. Manpreet Singh the President of Gulmohar Centre presented a bouquet of flowers to Mrs Upadhyay and Mr. VinayThakur introduced her.

Dr. D.Upadhyay gave a PowerPoint presentation which she has specially prepared so that non medical people could understand it. (She in her usual programme gives training for doctors). She said that India has less than 45% covid cases as compared to USA, the reason behind is

  1. India has large number of young population
  2. Herd and hybrid Immunity
  3. More than 75%population have vaccine
  4. Development of good quality of vaccine in early stage.
  5. Availability of  free Vaccine for all. So it was possible to cover a large number  of  Indians vaccinated.

She emphasized that high risk factors, the long covid syndrome and reiterated the importance of taking vaccine, vitamins and exercises for keeping fit and increasing lungs capacity. She said laughing is good for increasing lungs capacity and abdominal muscles. For care of lungs health she suggested the following remedies

  1. Laughing
  2. Singing
  3. Diaphragmatic breathing
  4. Yoga
  5. Pranayam
  6. Right postures
  7. Being active physically
  8. At least 20 minutes walk every day.

For Immunity boost she recommends: 1. A balanced protein diet 2. Lots of fruits and vegetables such as spinach, turmeric (haldi), ginger, almonds, sunflower, seeds, kiwi, papaya, citrus fruits, green tea and drink planty of water as hydration is important. She suggested 20 minutes nap in the afternoon is good for health. She informed that oxygen power could be improved by lying in a prone position and a glass of red wine is beneficial for a healthy heart because of antioxidants .She also advised one should take care of ones body for that take break from work, make time to develop contacts, focus on facts, keep yourself busy with work and positivity.

Throughout her talk she constantly interacted with the audience with her charming smile and pleasant manner and tried to make the talk very interesting, informative and lively. She answered all the questions, queries and doubts raised by the audience to their satisfaction. It was a very nice  interesting session Mr.Subhsh Saluja the General secretary of GJCSCF requested Mrs. Upadhyay to cut the ribbon of two wheel chairs which the forum had received in donation from Rotary Centre.

Mr. Y. Sahay, presented a memento to Dr Upaddhyay and thanked her for such a useful and interesting talk on behalf of forum and Gulmohar Centre members. That was followed by tea and snacks.
