GJCSCF held its monthly meeting on 30th April at Gulmohar Centre’s TT Hall 11.30 am onwards. Mr. Y Sahay, the President of the forum, welcomed all the members. He informed the house that as the forum has not received any fund forum it depends on Annual subscription and generous donations from the members. He requested members to pay their annual subscription for smooth functioning of forum activities. He also informed us that donations are welcome but they are not compulsory. Donors can receive fifty percent rebate on their donation under income tax rule 80G.
After that he announced that the forum management has decided to do something new so that every member could participate and enjoy. He said happiness is the most important, most sought out thing so the day’s discussion would focus on everyone’s version of happiness. He announced that every member will be granted two minutes to present his or her views on happiness. It is difficult all of a sudden to collect one’s thoughts on a particular subject and present them publicly, especially a word like happiness which has so many dimensions, depth, emotions , views, characteristics and could not be measured. But our seniors took the challenge and one by one expressed their views. It was quite an interesting session.
1.Happiness is joy when we are with family members. 2.Happiness is a feeling of satisfaction when we think we have enough. 3.Meaning of happiness changes age wise. As we grow our concept of happiness changes. 4. Happiness is the feeling of pleasure when one performs the work in which he gets joy. 5. Happiness is the feeling which we experience when we are among friends. 6. Happiness could be found in material things to an extent but when we have ample material things it doesn’t. 7. Happiness is doing good for others. In this both parties who received and who donated, will feel happiness. 8. We can achieve happiness if we keep ourselves busy and learn to forgive. 9. Happiness is good health l, financial security, happy family and friends. 10. Happiness is a choice, it is upto you to be happy or not. Only we can decide how to be happy. 11. Happiness is not what we have but what we are. 12 Happiness is positive thinking and it is a mental state.
The above mentioned views are the essence of all thoughts pronounced by members regarding happiness. Mr. Y. Sahay in his remarks mentioned all with a quote from Alfred Lord Tennyson.” The happiness of a man in this life does not consist in the absence but the mastery of the passions.”
