Gen SN Sharma Celebrates His 101st Birthday

Gen SN Sharma PVSM  AVSM (retd) r/o E1 celebrated his 101st birthday recently on 3rd Oct. He was Engineer Chief of the Indian Army and a Paratrooper who celebrated his retirement farewell with a para jump. Among the many well-wishers who greeted him were Lt Gen Arvind  Walia, current Engineer in Chief of Indian Army and Lt Gen Vivek Rohila, current DG Indian Army.

Gen Sharma is from an illustrious army family. He is the son of Dr. Maj Gen Amar Nath Sharma, who retired as DG Army Medical Corps. His elder brother Maj Som Nath Sharma was the first recipient of India’s highest gallantry award, the Param Vir Chakra, given to him posthumously during 1948 war with Pakistan. His younger brother Gen VN Sharma, PVSM AVSM, retired as Chief of Indian Army during 1988-1990. And to top it all Gen Sharma’s wife’s mother, Savitri Bai Khanolkar (a Swiss national), who married Indian Army Officer Maj Gen Khanolkar happens to be the designer of the highest gallantry award, the Param Vir Chakra !!

His enthusiasm for life is predominant, having celebrated his 90th birthday with a para jump and danced the night away at his 100th birthday celebrations at Delhi Gym. He is truly an inspiration and a role model, still in great physical health, sprightly and smiling, and an ever-popular chief guest at colony events. We wish him good health and well-being and many more birthdays.
