As the older generation of Malibu’s Eco-warriors gets occupied across many fronts, it was heartening to see gen-next quietly take over the mantle. A group of Youngsters from Club-Road have been conducting cleanliness drives across the forest stretch running along street and beyond. Since past few months, Ritu, Deepika, Payal, Rohan and Rashi have been doing Shramdaan and clearing the forest patch of garbage and plastic, This isn’t just resulting in a visually pleasant sight but also helping the forest thrive as all the garbage and plastic disintegrate and permeates the soil, eventually choking the trees and contaminating the soil, rendering it infertile in the long run.
Ritu and Deepika are preparing to take their Civil Services Exams, while Payal & Rashi are all set to start college. Rohan, the youngest green soldier, is in grade 7. They took out time from their busy schedules to render selfless service to the community and the forest.
Few things build character the way community service does.
We hope that these promising youngsters inspire many others to step forward and take responsibility for their surroundings. It is not enough to be a good person or a good professional. One must also strive to be a good citizen, for citizens are the building blocks of a nation. Amen.
