GK-2 has been besieged with the problem of garbage accumulation since the past few days. With the closure of the garbage collection point (Dhalao) near the main market, garbage in the other Dhalaos has started piling up and spilling over onto the surrounding areas. The RWA promptly rushed to the Hon`ble Delhi High Court seeking stay against the closure and the proposed demolition of the concerned Dhalao by the Authorities to make way for construction of an Amul Milk Booth at that spot.
The Hon’ble High Court of Delhi on 22nd March 2023 took cognizance of the matter and granted a stay order against the illegal and improper demolition of the Dhalao and consequent setting up of milk booths / kiosks there as doing so without making necessary modifications in the layout plan of GK-II is gravely prejudicial to the area residents.
While the efforts of RWA paid off and the Court stayed the proposed demolition of the Dhalao, it has not yet helped in controlling the garbage menace and bringing the situation back to normal. The problem is getting further aggravated with the irregular clearing of the garbage in the colony by the MCD which is working with truncated staff strength. As a result, the entire colony has started resembling a huge garbage dump. Although the RWA launched a massive cleanliness drive on its own volition on 25th March`23 to control this menace, we hope the Authorities would clean up this mess at the earliest.
