The foot over bridge (FOB) between Sectors 50 and 41 is made to connect two major markets across the road. The bridge is well lit and adequately wide with steel railing to make it user-friendly. Pedestrians are required and bound to use the FOB to cross the busy road.
However, in order to avoid climbing a few step, the pedestrians are taking short cut by crossing through a gap in the median/green belt just below the FOB and adjacent to the centre pillar of the bridge. By doing so they are endangering not only their own life but also the life of the persons driving their vehicle legally on the road meant for motor vehicles. A sudden and unexpected appearance of a person in front of the vehicle will definitely distract the person driving and may lead to an accident.
But who cares? Is this no body’s duty or responsibility? Can this likely danger be ignored? It is hard to understand as to why the gap in the median is left or not closed. Instead of closing it permanently, the concrete pillars and wire fence seems is intentionally put in such a way that the broken median paves way to take risk and cross the road. Why it is so?
The coordination among the three departments – Horticulture, Traffic police and Noida Authority seems to be missing.
Even the large hoarding covering both sides of FOB can be minimised to have clear visibility for pedestrians and their safety from social evils like eve-teasing, snatching, molestation, etc. while on FOB to cross over to the other side. Of course, such measures may lead to a little reduction in the earnings of the Noida Authority from these commercial hoarding.
