It was a heartening experience to collect mango seeds from friends and neighbors and courier them to a Calcutta based NGO for sowing as the first attempt. The last article that was published had a wide readability. I received many phone calls from all those who read the article wanting to donate the seeds. I shared the video with everyone.
I am grateful to all my friends who collected, washed, dried and then sent mango seeds packets to me.
My heartfelt gratitude to Saroj Mittal, Harsh Logani, Shobhana Bhargav and Neelum Nayyer who sent me mango seeds packets. Without their help this project would not have seen the light of the day.
Next thought was to try and grow the saplings ourselves. I looked out for friends who could sow the mango seeds in their houses. In my small little balcony I sowed around 30 seeds. I am grateful to my friend Rupali Saxena from SDA who planted 100 mango seeds on her terrace in the early month of June.
Dr Nisha Wadhwa from GPX also grew mango seeds in her balcony.
On my part I planted 30 mango seeds on my small balcony. Rainy season is a boon for all plant lovers. By and by the mango seeds sprouted into saplings. It was such an overwhelming delight to see small baby plants growing each day.
On 17th August, I heartily announced that we planted our First six Saplings, in our K Block Park, GPX by Mrs Harsh Logani and myself. This is the start of the small effort towards our sustainable development program by sowing the saplings in the park. Also a step towards fighting global warming, giving Mother Earth its due, by planting baby saplings that would grow into trees, in the coming years. More are to follow. As the saplings will keep growing in our homes we shall focus on finding places where these saplings find ground to thrive and grow.
Note: Requesting all plant lovers to come forward and help in distributing the plants. Anyone who needs mango saplings, can take it from me. I would most happily give the saplings, so that they may grow in their different areas.
