The sprawling Forest area adjacent to Sector A, Pocket C,Vasant Kunj (Blocks 8 and 9) looks like an island of trees with Birds, Peacocks Neelgai and more –but with one difference- it has heaps of garbage, including plastic, and construction waste, malba and what not.
This raises questions about the contamination of groundwater in the area, which in turn can affect the growth and survival of trees, flora, and fauna. Garbage emits toxic chemicals into the soil that contaminates the surface and also the underground water which experts say can be an ecological disaster.
Since the trees in the complex majorly rely on underground water for their survival, contamination of underground water hampers the survival chances of the trees and saplings.
In discussions with the officials of DDA, it came out that some residents are dumping garbage and such materials into the forest area.
It is advised that a campaign to protect the green lungs of Vasant Kunj be carried out immediately.
Protecting the forest is of utmost importance for several reasons. The forest serves as crucial green lungs for the Vasant Kunj residents. It plays a vital role in purifying the air thereby helping combat air pollution and improving the overall air quality of the region. It acts as a natural buffer against the harmful effects of vehicular emissions, industrial pollution, and dust particles, providing a healthier environment for the Vasant Kunj residents.
Let us all proactively work together to protect the Green Lungs of Vasant Kunj.
