The friendship still going strong
Friendship club was started 15 years ago with the aim that colony ladies are not alien to each other. We never had any President or Secretary,all members are equal friends. There are 5 volunteer core group members, to organize meetings every month. Venue is always given by a member, Poonam Kapila.
We have 65 members listed and 45 to 50 attend meetings every month. Agenda is one free purposeful talk and enjoyment like Dr. Misra explained with a demonstration on CPR. We play tambola, go for picnic, hold musical evenings, Pot Luck lunches, Celebrate every festival. Invite spouses in some functions.
We extend help if any member is in distress. We jointly created Friendship Park out of a scary jungle by shramdaan. Sometimes on cleanliness drive we pick up plastic bags, bottles etc.
Green Park Main Gyandeep School, a byproduct of the friendship club has been running for 12 years for underprivileged children and maids (these days 4 maids are studying). All teachers are volunteer members, started upto Class 5th, today we help and teach children upto 10th standard. Free venue has always been provided by Poonam Kapila/ Anjali Gogia.
Members help in giving chairs, desks, exercise books, pen/pencils throughout the year. In winter cardigans and in summers a summer dress each is distributed to the children. Aim of school is to strengthen the foundation, teach cultural items, bring out their talent in drawing/ painting etc and make sure that Today’s child should be tomorrow ‘s good citizen.
