There was a fatal accident again at the Sector 100 T-point on Wednesday, 8 March. A delivery boy was hit while negotiating the turn at this crossing.
The T-point is an accident-prone spot as there is a sharp left opening for the service road. Also, there is neither traffic discipline nor adequate traffic police personnel deployment. Further, the vehicular flow from the Expressway is fast & jumping of the signal is common.
The traffic coming from the Maharshi Ashram side & entering the service lane of Lotus Boulevard is highly accident-prone. It is used by the residents as well as the delivery personnel catering to Lotus Boulevard & Espacia.
Residents coming from the Dadri Road & taking a U-turn for entering the service lane are also at risk. In addition, the domestic helps are always in a hurry & use the crossing, scarcely using the Foot Over Bridge (FOB) as the lifts are quite often not working.
The FOB is hardly serving the purpose, except generating advertisement revenue, as most of the time one of both the lifts are out of order. Senior citizens can often be seen using the stairs to cross the road, cursing the lifts.
If the lifts work properly, a fence can be put on the society side to prevent pedestrians from crossing using the T-point. Constant monitoring by the traffic police is necessary which is rarely found.
Three solutions can be considered:
- A properly visible traffic signal should be installed on the Sector 100 side for expressway traffic.
- The lifts should be maintained properly so that pedestrians develop a habit of using this FOB.
- There should be a proper deployment of police personnel, at least during office hours.
