Exploring Buddhist Wisdom: ‘Buddha on Happiness’ Talk at Anand Niketan Club

The Indo-Japanese Women Association invited Morita Hiroshi, a leading expert and international teacher of Buddhism, from Japan to talk, ‘Buddha on Happiness’ on Sunday, 2nd March 2025 at Anand Niketan Club. The association is committed to spreading awareness about Japanese literature and culture and is promoted by Dr. Anita Khanna, a resident of our very own Anand Niketan.

Mr. Morita is a world-renowned expert and teacher of Pure Land Shin Buddhism of Japan. Shin Buddhism, also known as Jôdo Shinshû, is a school of Pure Land Buddhism founded by Shinran Shonin in 12th century Japan. Shin Buddhism emphasizes the importance of gratitude for all that sustains life. During the talk, Mr. Morita introduced participants to the concepts of the four noble truths and mindful living/awareness in the pursuit of happiness, especially contextualised from the examples of the life of Shinran Shonin.

The talk was met with great enthusiasm and interest by the participants and was followed by a discussion where some participants offered adjacent perspectives on enlightenment from the life and times of Siddhartha in India, in the spirit of self-reflection and introspection.
