This year, India created history by arranging 45-day Hindu pilgrimage festival which took place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. More than 660 million people took a dip in the Sangam of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati.
Expecting and arranging the successful completion of the Mahakumbh Mela, the UP government has not left any stone unturned as far as security arrangements and maintaining the cleanliness of the place. Free food was available for people who thronged there from all over the world. To my surprise, we expect all comforts and perfection wherever we visit whereas I feel visitors should have been more disciplined and would have helped the UP government to maintain the area in good condition. After the holy dip, the people left behind their wet clothes on the bank of the river. Creating heaps of leftovers. Throwing coconuts, flowers, and some pooja material in the river. Slippers were floating in the river. Lack of civic sense to maintain the hygiene of the holy place amongst them. The traffic was unmanageable due to the number of vehicles pouring into the city from all over India, despite the Local government having arranged e-rikshaw rides, and bike rides all around the Sangam. As the city is not very well developed and people are also not very educated and financially sound. This festival brought lots of opportunities for them to earn more and make their lives comfortable.
It is commendable that the city completed the three maha sanans of Kumbh with all the success and appreciation received from all over the world.
