Thander Prakash Sahdev was born in Defence Colony in 1949 to a defense officer’s family. His father, Late Lal Chand Sahdev, was one of the first residents to shift to Defence Colony with his brother R. L. Sahdev and created a group of residents who started coordinating with various departments for the development of Defence Colony. After retirement, his father floated a trading company known as Pearl Trading and took the agency of Kirloskar compressors. As Chander Sahdev was completing his graduation, he joined the family business of air-conditioning and took over the overall operations with the guidance and blessings of his father. During the next 50 years, Chander Sahdev took Pearl Trading Company to the greatest heights to create his name in the air-conditioning industry with his professional approach and policies.
Sahdev loves music and is known as the “dancing dude of Defence Colony” as he is always the first one to start dancing in any event of our club and colony.
Sahdev, who has just celebrated his 75th birthday in style with his friends and loved ones at the senior citizen forum, shared his feedback and suggestions: The colony is now quite developed with two clubs, RWA, a senior citizen forum, and more than 25 beautiful gardens. He believes security in Def Col has improved during the last decade, and medical facilities are now available for all age groups.
The condition of roads is quite bad, especially during monsoon, when it’s not easy for the senior citizens to even walk. The street lights in the service lanes may be much better. Parking is a big issue for senior citizens due to the renting of basements to the lawyers and other showrooms, etc. in the colony. The dwelling units and population are increasing with each passing year, but the infrastructure and space remain the same.
