On Sunday, 1 September, the AOH community witnessed an exciting transition with the introduction of the Dribbling Drills Basketball Academy (DDB), replacing the previous Right to Play program on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
This change marks a significant shift in the way basketball is approached in our society, offering a more professional training environment for young athletes.
The DDB Academy, led by coaches Manjit Sirohi and Abhishekh Sir, places a strong emphasis on honing professional basketball skills. Right to Play, led by Javed Akhtar, focuses primarily on fitness and general health, while DDB provides equal attention to all age groups, hosting various tournaments to nurture state and district-level talent.
This academy is ideal for those looking to pursue basketball more seriously whereas Right to Play is ideal for those looking to keep their fitness and health in check.
The change was driven by a growing demand from parents who wanted a structured, professional program for their children, especially those aspiring to excel in basketball. DDB addresses this need, offering specialized training while maintaining a fun, competitive environment.
While the introduction of DDB has been largely welcomed, some families have experienced challenges adjusting to the new schedule, particularly with tuition timings. However, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday still remain dedicated to the Right to Play Academy, providing a balance for children focused on fitness and overall well-being.
Overall, the reaction to the DDB Academy has been mostly positive, especially for those seeking a more professional approach to basketball in Hamlet. However, parents have raised concerns regarding how players can balance their other commitments, such as tuition and extracurricular activities due to these changes in academies.
Despite these challenges, the new academy promises to elevate the level of the game, offering our community’s young talent a platform to shine.
