Examinations – Let’s Love It!

Examination is a tool of assessment that gives you an idea of how much you have learnt. But it also makes you anxious and stressed! Having anxiety/ stress during ex-aminations is normal and pushes you to work hard and be prepared. It’s (anxiety) is positive till it pushes you but when it goes beyond that and stops you from doing your day-to-day work, to move forward and prepare, then it is worrisome. How to cope with this situation? There are some remedies to make you feel better, less anxious and do better in your examinations. The following will help, so try and see:

• Planning and start preparing early reduces anxiety to a large extent but now as the exams are either starting or have started consolidating whatever you have prepared is more beneficial.

• At this time keeping good health is very important as the season is also changing. Parents play an important role in helping children to have proper nutrition. Any carelessness by children will harm them.

• Proper sleep (eight hours or so) will help them to properly memorise and retain whatever they are learning. Deprivation of sleep results in more and more anxiety and can cause forgetfulness!

• Before the exam, if you have a new place as your centre, then visiting it beforehand will be a good idea. It will give you an idea about the time required to get there. Anything new and unknown creates anxiety!

Discussing with others what have they prepared or not prepared should be avoided as it may cause anxiety in you! If you are anxious do some simple breathing exercises for a few minutes as it will help in relaxation.

• If you are tense when you are in your seat repeat breathing exercises. If anxiety is too high coming out, only with the permission of the investigator, for a few minutes and having long inhaling and exhaling breathing will help! Oxygen intake helps reduce anxiety!

• Go inside and start your paper, easy first and later difficult. Slowly your confidence improves and memory starts coming back!*

• ‘Attempt all questions.

• Keep some time for revision.

• No point in discussing your paper after the exam. Now you cannot change anything! Focus on the next paper!
