Every year, the rainy season throws Delhi, off gear. The entire civic system is in a mess! Schools close, after a single bout of heavy rains! This gets Delhiites thinking, is it the drainage system or is it the general terrain of the land? Kolkatta, Mumbai are two metropolitan cities, in India, which continue to function, after days of incessant rains. New Friends Colony gets flooded as water even enters the basements. The New Friends Colony club’s swimming pool gets shut due to backflow of drain water, into the pool.
The unfortunate incident of students getting trapped in the basement while attending classes is really sad.
All these instances culminate into one thought, why is the government civic body not dealing with this problem? Why is the same situation arising again and again? Why isn’t the old and obsolete drainage system being refurbished? Houses are getting constructed, at any and every inch of land available, without a thought, to the functionality of the consequences.
This is an urgent message for the local MCD bodies to get into the helm of the affairs and rectify the problem, from the root.
