We celebrated Republic Day with patriotic sentiments and deep love for the country. The newly formed cultural committee headed by Santosh Dubey and AOA president Sudha Sharma, organised two remarkable events to mark the day – Sports Day and Flag Hoisting and Republic Day Cultural Program.
Espacians came together on the chilled winter morning of Sunday, 21 January and enthusiastically participated in the Sports Day events. Fun races were organised for all – from 5-years to 50-years. Tiny tots sprinted across the racing track while eager youngsters enjoyed huddle and three-legged races.
Gentlemen and ladies relished the Lemon and Spoon race. Winners were applauded; the event was an entertainment for all.
Cold, fog and wintry winds on the morning of Friday, 26 January did not deter us from coming forward and standing shoulder to shoulder to respect our National Flag and sing the National Anthem aloud. The Republic Day festivity began with the welcome of our respected chief guest, Lt. General Prem Goel, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, a highly honoured and decorated army veteran and also a resident here.
The cultural program was swarming with vivid performances portraying patriotism and sacrifice. It began with a medley – an amalgamation of new and old patriotic songs performed by a group of tween and senior singers.
‘Bhagat Singh’ – a kathak performance by our vibrant dance troupe comprising little girls better known as Butterflies of Espacia stole everyone’s heart. The audience cheered as a group of ladies accomplished a harmonious medley; the Tiny Tots dazzled the stage with their amazing dance moves.
‘Vande Mataram’, the National Song, was sung by a new resident, Mahua Srivastav. The day’s events culminated with a speech by Lt. General Prem Goel. Later, he awarded the winners of sports day, accompanied by Ms. Sharma.
Children and adults united to salute and celebrate the extraordinary journey of our nation in the last 75 years, making both the events an amazing success.
