We are very fortunate to have so many beautiful open spaces and parks in each block of GK2. It is painful to see these spaces so under-utilized by our residents & their families. There is still time to enjoy the warmth of the winter sun & absorb some Vitamin D by visiting these parks.
It’s a wonderful experience to sit and watch the nature at play – the dried out leaves, wafted by the wind, falling gently to the ground – the stark tree leafless & flowerless ! Come March & little green leaves appear, getting bigger & spreading all over the branches, interspersed by colorful flowers which follow. And behold ! Soon the tree is in full bloom – what a wonderful spectacle of nature !
On one heavily overcast day I was walking in the Central Park W Block when a few raindrops started falling. I headed for the rain refuge (gazebo) which wasn’t too far away. Very soon after, there was a flash of lightning followed by thunder and then the rain fell – tons of it ! I watched the amazing site all around me, safe in my rain refuge. When the rain relented, I made it to my car & drove back home just a little wet but greatly elated – a nice experience in the park.
Another advantage of going to our parks is that you might make some new friends there as well. And don’t forget to bring your children along whenever possible. It is a pure delight to look at the diversity of the flora and fauna in the Central Park. To look at the dragon-flies and butterflies and to hear the chirping of the birds is to understand what nature is all about. There is also sufficient space in our parks for sports activities like football, badminton, and so on. One particular place I want to stress on is the sports park in S Block that has tennis courts and a skating rink.
In the end, there’s a nice saying in Urdu – “Aankhein khol ke kaan jo kholo Bazm e Jahaan afsana hai” – meaning “Keep your eyes and ears open, the world is one beautiful story ! Enjoy it”
