Encroachments Galore

Why does MCD become active in Festival Season to Selectively Disrupt RWA Events?

Strange are the ways of MCD’s functioning, there are Encroachments on every street in GK and Delhi, RWA’s across Delhi keep filing complaints for their re-moval, even Supreme Court  has failed to get MCD to remove encroachments save for occasional drives, which have zero impact on encroachers.

But one place where MCD’s Horticulture Department tries to flex its muscles, is in trying to stall RWA community functions in colony parks, on the pretext of some Court Order. The same Court Order does not come in the way of Functions organized by RWA’s that are in the good books of Powers that be.

E & S Block RWA have been at the receiving end of such threats be that for Lohri, Diwali, Holi etc. Whereas in the same park a Parallel Society formed by a disgruntled group of political party workers, who owe allegiance to the Councillor, merrily organize Diwali Mela, throwing all rules to the wind and no MCD staff blinks an eyelid. When confronted MCD staff on condition of anonymity inform that some people from opposing groups keep complaining and exert pressure from the Top to take action against the popular RWA that has won repeated elections with huge margins.

Thanks to MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj’s intervention and positive approach of local police, nefarious attempts by political disrupters have always come to a naught. During Dushera this year again an attempt was made to stall the show, RWS of E Block, now used to such shenanigans managed to reason out with MCD and the show as usual was a huge success.

Things came to a boil, when M-Block Market Association’s Famous Karwa Chauth Mela being held for decades, attracted the attention of MCD, who came with a team to uproot stalls, stage and backdrop. Market Association President Rajinder Sharda, also the Vice President of GKRA, sent an SOS in the GKRA MC Group and soon in solidarity the GKRA President, General Secretary, MC Members and Kailash Colony Traders Association met in M-Block Market and condemned MCD’s attempt to disrupt the Mela. A resolution was passed that MCD be told not to take selective action, while turning a blind eye to other events in the same locality.

Area Councillor Shikha Rai needs to keep a check on her Disruptive workers, who in her name force MCD staff to take action against Selective RWA’s & Market Associations.
