Small intimate gatherings of like-minded souls have been a common affair at the Palms. Amidst the hustle bustle of post covid life, these events were being missed by many. So it was even more refreshing when Monica (a resident of Palms) hosted a ghar ki baithak where people could enjoy the sufi, mystical and Kabir songs.
It was a simple, unpretentious setting and July rains added to the fervour. We felt an immediate sense of calmness and got ready to listen to Anahita’s voice while she tuned her Surtanpura.
Anahita’s soothing voice charged the air with anticipation of what’s more to come. Her rendition of the popular “ Alif Allah Chambe Di Booti” by Sultan Bahu’ was a beautiful change. The evening brought out the true essence of mysticism through various lovely songs. Across an hour-long session, Anahita’s soulful voice and profound sufi songs, evoked a myriad of emotions of love, devotion, spirituality and self discovery.
The magic of the evening lingered as more people from the audience started to sing some of their favourite Kabir songs.
This small intimate gathering was a reminder of the power of music and poetry to unite hearts and minds. Verses of Kabir and Anahita’s melodious voice left us yearning for more such soul-stirring evenings in future.
