A show by more than 40 children of Silver City!
Times are changing. We are in the digital world. Parents are busy with their office work and social affairs. Weekends are for quick trips to a new place or a resort. Festivals are losing their charm and real essence. But there are few individuals who have not lost hope yet; they began an initiative to start Ramlila in Silver City three years ago. Few volunteers came forward, AOA members encouraged the team and children prepared a few scenes, there were few hiccups but a good initiative.
Last year it got better with twenty to twenty-five children participating. This year’s Ramlila was a ‘grand success’. A show put forward by more than 40 children in Silver City!
The children worked hard. Practiced after school for almost two weeks with the volunteer mothers, grandfather and others. The show lasted for nearly two hours. Children, youngsters, oldies and parents all sat glued to see the performances. The narrators, “Sutradhar”, were excellent. The staff was efficient in putting up the sets. All chairs occupied, children sat on durries and youngsters were seen enjoying Ramlila sitting on the terrace of the swimming pool. The power of the show was amazing. The values we want our children to imbibe were all present there: team-work, responsibility, coordination, calmness, confidence, creativity, patience and joy.
India is a vast Nation, and our cultural fabric is diverse. Such programs inculcate the sense of inclusivity in our children. They know about history and the heritage; as to how we have evolved from the age of Rama to Present times in different aspects of life. Events of this kind inculcate a sense of inclusivity in our children.
I was really inspired by the performance and hard work put by all the volunteers and parents to make Ramlila a success, and imbibe values in all the audience who sat glued.
