Team Led by Nirupama Verma Elected Unopposed
The schedule for the elections for the GPJCWA ( Gulmohar Park RWA) were announced by Shri Kamal Khurana, the duly appointed returning officer, in the sec-ond week of April. The schedule, in brief, was:
-Last date for filing of nominations-25/4/24 followed by the scrutiny of the nominations the same day.
-Last date for withdrawal of nominations-27/4/2024, followed by scrutiny of the withdrawals, if any
-Voting , if required- 5/5/2024.
The elections, as always, created a buzz around the colony with speculations galore as to who would contest , who would win, what would be the combination of the team etc.
On the appointed day, the 25th of April, 2024, the returning officer opened the nomination box and much to the surprise of everyone present, only one panel, led by Nirupama Verma as the President, had filed its nomination. There was just one extra nomination for the post of the Vice President. This meant that the entire team, with the exception of one Vice President, would be elected unopposed, of course this was after the returning officer would certify that all nominations were correctly filed, which was confirmed after the scrutiny. Interestingly, some probable contestants had filed blank nomination papers. Why this was done, shall remain a mystery.
Mr Yogesh Bhandari withdrew his nomination for the post of the Vice President on the 27th of April. This meant the entire team, led by Nirupama Verma was elected unopposed. The returning officer announced the result on the 5th of May amongst thunderous applause from those present. We wish the new team all the very best for their tenure.
