The election for the new managing committee of RWA Sector 50 was held on July 30, 2023. 517 members residing in the sector exercised their voting rights out of 627 eligible voters as per the final list displayed on the community centre notice board by the nominated election officer Pramod Gupta, who is also a resident of sector 50.
The election procedure started with a GBM that was convened on July 9, 2023, in which the election officer was nominated along with the presentation of the balance sheet for the previous financial year 2022-23.
Members from two groups came forward to contest the election under their respective panels. One was the Mool Chand Gupta panel under the aegis of Mool Chand Gupta, the current president and also a candidate along with two more present office bearers and some new faces. The other group was the R.K Sharma Panel under Rajender Kumar Sharma who was the secretary in the sector 50 RWA a couple of years back. The panel also consists of some old office bearers and new faces from all walks of life.
The campaign started slowly but gained momentum rapidly. The entire sector was seen overloaded with hoardings at all the gates, road crossings and other prominent places to attract attention. Door-to-door campaigning to meet voters and solicit votes on the grounds of change, achievements, mandir, club-50 etc. was done by both the groups. The Mool Chand Gupta team asked for votes on the basis of their accomplishments during the previous years and work in the pipeline. But many residents feel that the points mentioned in their accomplishments were related to work done by the Noida Authority and not the RWA. The other team, namely the R.K Sharma panel circulated their manifesto citing day-to-day problems and their solutions. Cleanliness, safety, security, health & hygiene, transparency, beautification of the sector and Club-50 membership was the main priority on their agenda.
The election was held in a very free and fair atmosphere as the entire election team worked in a transparent manner in accordance with the election procedure as instructed by the election officer. Though the residents must have come with decided minds, yet the candidates were present at the entry to influence the decision. The contest was close and brutal.
It can be called an irony that many voters who do not live in the Sector came to exercise their vote but those who actually live in the Sector did not turn out. This led to a heavy turnout of more than 82%.
Finally, the result was declared at around 9:00 pm and the Mool Chand Gupta panel was declared the winner. The fight was close and the margin of winning remained between 2 to 10 percent between candidates with the average difference being 5.5 %.
The outcome of the election shows that the residents seem to be satisfied with the work done by the present managing committee and did not opt for a change at this juncture. But at the same time, a mixed team would have been a better option. The voters should have chosen candidates from different blocks for better representation, rather than constricting their choice to a couple of blocks. Anyway, the Samvada team wishes the RWA managing committee the best of luck in all their future endeavours.
