ndia is the country of festivals and celebrations. As usual, there was a celebration of senior citizens on 1st & 2nd October 2024 in the library hall of Safdarjung Enclave. On 1st october, there was a medical check-up of senior citizens by eminent doctors, and in the evening, a fruitful talk by doctors of repute was given.
On 2nd october, there was a cultural programme of dance, music, and shayri, as usual. Mahesh, the organiser of musical program, made the event very enjoyable. It was followed by a question & answer session on films. All the seniors got lovely gifts and sumptuous dinner and snacks of Chandi Chowk were another attraction.
The newly elected president of Rotary club addressed the seniors,
“My Dearest and Most Respected Seniors, who remain young at heart,
A very warm Rotary greeting to each one of you.
Today, we come together to celebrate the 22nd World Elders Day, and I have the honour of standing before you as the President of the Rotary Club of Delhi South West. Our club, which was founded on October 2, 1985, by our esteemed Charter President, Rtn Rajan Kochar, and Poonam Kochar, alongside other dedicated charter members, marks its 40th Charter Day today. It’s a day of double celebration as we share this milestone with our beloved seniors.
Allow me to take a brief journey through the history of World Elders Day.
On December 14, 1990, the United Nations passed a resolution designating October 1st as the International Day of Older Persons, which we celebrate here as World Elders Day. This special occasion honors the contributions of older generations to our society, recognising their wisdom, experience, and guidance.
I would also like to acknowledge a very special member of our Rotary family, Past President Rtn Pankaj Aggarwal, who took the initiative to promote this day within our club. Unfortunately, he is unable to join us today due to illness, but we send him our warmest wishes for a speedy recovery.
About our Club: As mentioned earlier, our club was formed on October 2, 1985, and today we proudly celebrate 40 years of service. Throughout this remarkable journey, we have launched numerous projects aimed at supporting the underprivileged in our community. Among our current flagship initiatives are a Skill Development Centre in Green Park Mandir and a Dialysis Centre with 10 machines located at the Saket Gurudwara. Distribution of Dry rations to 100 TB patients. Distribution of Food to the needy under the project Maa ki Rasoi, Holdingbof mega Blood Donation Camp at Rakab Ganj Gurdwara on Gurpurab every year, Holding poster painting competition for the age groups starting 4 years to 18 years across NCR and many more. These projects represent just a glimpse of the impact our club has made over the years.
We are fortunate to have so many of our members present here today, along with their spouses. I now kindly request all of you to assemble near the stage so we can continue with our celebration.
