After a long time waiting for physical meetings due to corona, finally unit one AIKGA could arrange an educational trip to Padam Singh’s house on 15 th October 2022.
Mr. Padam Singh is fond of growing fruits in pots. His terrace garden has a very good ecosystem. He has very big fruit trees like lemon, keenu, ber apple, chikoo, Kamrak, dragon fruit, drum sticks and many more. Along with fruit trees he is also fond of flowers so there is a good environment for pollination.
The information was given for how to select fruit and flower plants from the nursery .
a)While buying a fruit plant the following points should be kept in mind:-
- Fruit plants should have fruit or flowers.
- It should be grafted.
3.Its stem should be 2 to 3 inches in diameter. - It should be 3 to 4 feet in height.
- It should have 2 to 3 branches.
b) How big should the pot be to plant a fruit plant? - It should be a cement pot.
- While buying flower saplings also flowers should be there so that we can choose the color of flowers.
c) How to take care of fruit plants:- - Soil should be well drained. It should have a 60:40 ratio. Garden soil be 60% and 40% should be either vermi compost, well rotted cow dung manure or home made compost.
2 . The pot should be kept at the place where you get 6-8 hours of good sunlight. - Time to repeat manure is before flowering time and again when fruit starts to take shape.
Many of his plants were having fruits on them like Kamrak, lemon, Cheeku, kenoo etc . It was so thrilling to see such an eco-friendly environment. Though the strength of members was less due to the festive season, it was a very fruitful meeting and all our members enjoyed the outing and had fun.
