The motto of SBWS-“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile”
Believing in this famous statement of the great scientist, Albert Einstein, the members of the managing committee of SBWS think that they should also contribute towards nation-building or help the authorities in various ways, maybe in small steps.
Following this dictum, SBWS contributed some small measures to control the pollution in its own way & took the following pragmatic steps to reduce & control the pollution in our block. In fact, we have been doing it for the past couple of years, and believe me, it helps.
Some of the measures that we undertake every year are:
*Almost all the Dhobis in the block have been provided with electric connections and electric irons have been provided to them on a FOC basis. We all know that the burning of soft coke produces various gases like NO2, CO, CO2, sulphur dioxide, etc., which are poisonous.
In addition, the ash produced is also harmful.
The most important point is that for every one kg of soft coke, one has to burn 4kg of wood under controlled conditions.
*Electric heaters have been provided to all night guards, who brave the chill to protect us. They are not allowed to burn wood/coal/tyres, etc. to keep them warm.
* Enough woolens, including jackets, socks, caps, mufflers, blankets, etc. are provided to them.
* Strict action is taken against construction workers & private guards if they are caught using wood at night or for cooking. Each & every builder is advised/forced to provide LPG stoves/cylinders to their workers.
* Use of sprinklers in the park, quite frequently, to reduce dust pollution.
* Traffic regulation by guards during peak hours to avoid traffic jams.
These small steps count and we are proud to say that the air quality index in S Block G K 1 was quite a bit less as compared to hot spots in Delhi.
Some pics, enclosed herewith, would prove our point.
