NS Public is situated in Block B, Sector 26 Noida. Students come from different sectors following different modes of transport. Many students come to the school walking and many come by most dangerous mode of transport ie E Rickshaw.
Auto has the capacity to allow three passengers and as per law E Rickshaw cannot carry more than three passengers but as per usual practice, they are seen plying on roads carrying minimum 10 students and School bags are kept on the roof cover of the vehicle.
That invites more risk to lives not only of the students but also to lives of pedestrians. Recently an incident was reported that a rickshaw was carrying children in a similar manner and some of them started fighting inside the vehicle while it was still moving at a high speed. One girl child fell off the rickshaw in the melee and a van coming from behind ran over her. We are not sure what finally happened to the girl but the incident sent chill all around.
Our Sector RWA should write to the school authorities to communicate to parents not to send their children in dangerous mode of transport which are fully overloaded and plying on roads with great speed in crowded roads. RWA should direct their security staff to stop entry of overloaded E Rickshaw’s entering Sector from any gate. Same copy should be sent to DCP for necessary action.
The question that still plagues all of us is that most of these children come from families with low-income group and if we request them to send their children with safer mode of transport, they may not be able to afford it. Chances are they would withdraw their children from school, which will be even worst than taking the risk.
Overloaded E-Rickshaw
