Thousands throng to witness ‘First of its Kind’ in GK-I Lazer Ravan Dahan
E Block RWS is known for its Events for Community Bonding, be it Karwa Chauth, Lohri, Holi or Diwali. For the past five years Dushera was discontinued due to Cracker Ban and Pollution. Dushera is a Cultural Heritage that must be passed on to the future generations. The Spectacle of Ravan Dahan and Effigies Burning in a blaze of fire and bombs is imprinted in the memory of every Indian born in the PrePollution era not so long ago.
This year to revive the tradition and to find a viable, environment friendly alternative for the Burning of Ravan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnath Effigies, the MC of E- Block decided to have a Lazer Show Ravan Dahan. It was a blind avenue as no one had seen a similar show, but had heard of it on social media. Many vendors were approached and mind-boggling quotations started pouring in, leading to almost dropping the idea.
As luck would have it a vendor approached, who gave a reasonable quote and a few donors and Sponsors came forward, making it possible to put up the Grand Show. The MC decided to club Dushera & Diwali Mela for Viability and shared expenses on common items like Tents, Lighting, DJ, Decoration etc.
As the sun set, the Sports Ground was brimming with people, children, youth and seniors alike as word had spread far and wide about the Unique Lazar Dushera, people from as far as Lajpat Nagar came and waited for the show to begin. The Food Stalls did brisk business and children enjoyed Free Horse & Train Rides, Bouncy, Magic Show etc.
The Lazer Show began with Ganesh Vandana, followed by a 20 minutes abridged Ramayan in Lazer Splendor keeping the crowd spell bound, ending in a huge applause. A few seconds later Lazer Ravan Dahan started and the resounding bursting of Bombs & Crackers on the 20,000 watt sound system took the crowd by surprise. The Green Pyro Anars added to the Spectacle’s grandeur.
As videos of the show were shared on WhatsApp, crowd kept coming in waves and on popular request the Ravan Dahan was repeated three times. Kudos to the RWS team for putting up a novel show and keeping the tradition alive. The effort was duly appreciated by residents on whatsApp groups.
