E-Block Park Needs Strong Vigilance

Samvada reported the coming up of the E-block park, at its various development phases. Readers may recall that this was the most neglected park of the sector. It was an extension of the Community Centre (Baraat Ghar) and was used as dining section on the wedding days. Cooking for baraat was done throughout the day, in one corner; the scene the next morning was filthy with leftovers in one corner and pulled down decoration items lying around. Fed-up by the misuse of the park, few ladies of E-block got together and locked the wicket gate that connected the Community Centre.

Subsequently with the initiative of the block residents, the horticulture department turned its attention to this park and the development work of the park began.

The result was “an oasis for the E-block residents”, as one person said. The is walking track, a fountain and a gazebo — all which is expected of a decent park.

Now it has come to notice, and shared with Samvada team, that a few youngsters have taken to smoking and drinking in the public park during evening time. “We strongly want to discourage this behaviour as it can lead to discord and chaos. There are women and elderly taking walks in the evening. There are small children playing in the park. We urge Sector-50 RWA to kindly check and put a stop to this. We request residents to be vigilant,” say the residents that visit the park regularly.

The morning scene, near the bench, with wrappers and empty bottles lying around is a proof of the anti-social behaviour of the visitors. “Whatever… we, can’t encourage or turn blind eye to this kind of activities in public space,” is the outcry of the people here.

They want action and solution. Their suggestion is: In coordination with the police, RWA needs to work out a system to have motor-cycling patrolling done inside the sector, especially near the parks to inspect such misuse of a public place.

Also, the pavement outside, near the park entry, has sunk in. This poses a hazard to the park users. Maybe it’s the accumulation of the water thrown after car washing done here or, as we looked closer, maybe the drain running below is choked. The water collected thus has resulted in the sink-in.
