Dussehra, is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour across India. One of the prominent traditions is the burning of effigies of Ravan. This centuries-old custom is inspired by the epic story of Ramayan. Making an effigy of Ravan is an important part of the festival as it involves a creative and meticulous process also considering that it should not harm the environment. The preparation for the same started a few days ago before Dusshera. Students’ of Unnati (a school of learning) and a few ladies of G block thoroughly enjoyed making effigy of Ravana. On the day of Dusshera. A.S. Pal who is Secretary of RWA sector 41 set fires on the effigy of Ravana. Minutes later, it was in flames symbolising the win of good over evil. After that the residents of G block distributed sweets and shouted “Jai Shree Ram”.
