Durga Puja Preparations Begin at Kalibari Mandir

Sign Up for Anando Mela Competition – cooking, rangoli, art

Durga Puja preparation at Kalibari Mandir is an essential cultural practice that brings communities together every year, and in 2024, the festivities are set to be more spectacular than ever.

Durga Puja will be held at Kalibari Mandir grounds from 8th October and will culminate with Sindoor Khela and Visarjan of idols on 12th October. Additionally, Sri Lakshmi Puja will be held on 16th October and Bijaya Sammilani will be held on 19th October.

Preparations of pandal began on 8th September with’Khunti Pujan’, a customary ritual to celebrate the day when the idol artisan starts off the sculpting process. It also involves worshipping the earth (i) and a bamboo staff (khunti) where the idol will be placed. The pandal construction begins from this day.

In the past, the idols were sculpted by Shambhu Pal of Pilanchi Gaon near Sarojini Nagar, Delhi. As he has passed away, it is believed that his disciples may be preparing the idols. The pandal, as per rumours doing the rounds, will be designed by Ojan Ghosh and is to be based on a famous terracotta temple of Bishnupur, Bankura district, West Bengal.

The famed Anando Mela will be held on 8th October and will host a variety of competitions like singing, dancing, art, rangoli etc. The most looked-forward event, the cooking competition of Anando Mela will be held on 8th Oct. No live fire will be allowed this time and preparations will have to be brought ready. The categories are veg, non-veg and desserts. Please contact Sharmila Maity at 9818201169 to register for the same. Let us delve into the heart of Durga Puja preparation and celebrate the spirit of togetherness, devotion, and creativity that defines this remarkable festival.
