Imagine a world painted with vibrant colours, where paths pulse to the rhythmic beats of drums, and the air is thick with an infectious energy of devotion and celebration. This is Durga Puja, a festival that transcends mere religious observance, transforming into a grand tapestry of art, community, and spirituality. In Ashvin (October), CNPC Durga Bari hosted yet another magnificent celebration, echoing the age-old traditions and exuberance of this beloved festival.
Durga Puja is a celebration of feminine power, embodying the epic tale of Goddess Durga’s triumph over Mahishasura, a demon of deception and chaos. At CNPC Durga Bari, the story unfolded not just through rituals but through a community spirit that invited everyone, young and old, local and visitor, to be a part of this divine narrative. These were moments when the goddess descended to be amongst her devotees, filling the atmosphere with her blessings, love, and strength. This was a tribute to the divine, the essence of Durga Puja.
The journey of Durga Puja began much before the actual event, as skilled artisans came together to create the pandal, the temporary structures that housed the idols of Goddess Durga and her entourage. At CNPC Durga Bari, the pandal became a stage for artistic expression, presenting a unique rural Bengal theme that blended tradition with innovation, where every corner told a story, every detail summoned admiration.
The idol of Goddess Durga stood at the centre of this celebration, resplendent in its beauty and power. The rituals, chants, offerings, and prayers, immersed everyone in a spiritual rhythm, culminating in the symbolic immersion (visarjan) of the idols, signifying her return to her heavenly abode. It was a feast for the senses.
The Durga Puja at CNPC Durga Bari was a celebration of community and camaraderie. Families came together, donning their finest attire, sharing meals, and engaging in collective prayers. The “bhog,” the blessed food offered to the goddess, was a communal feast that brought people closer, spreading joy and warmth.
The festivities featured cultural progra-mmes, music, dance, theatre, and the Anandamela food fair on Panchami, drawing food lovers with Bengali and Indian delicacies. A children’s drawing competition and strong community spirit added to the vibrant celebration.
The pandal resonated with music and dance, while homes of devotees buzzed with laughter and happiness. As the drums beat louder and the lights shone brighter, Durga Puja at CNPC Durga Bari was celebrated with hearts open, spirits high, and joyous invocations! The rhythmic beats of the “dhak,” the intoxicating aroma of “dhuno,” the swirl of “dhunuchi naach,” and the chants of “Dugga Dugga” filled the air. In an atmosphere where joy knew no boundaries.
On Dashami, the tenth day, the red powder of “sindoor khela” stained women’s cheeks, carrying with them the blessings of the goddess, a symbol of strength and love. As the goddess bid farewell, with Visarjan (immersion), promising to return next year, she left behind a lingering sense of warmth, unity, and an unquenchable hope for a brighter tomorrow. Dashami also called Bijoya Dashami (After the immersion) culminated with a delectable repast in the evening, a member exclusive event.
