Prateek Wisteria Durga Puja Samiti celebrated Durga Puja in the society from September 30to October 5. After a difficult period of two years, this year the celebra-
tions were back in full swing, with Anandamela on September 30 being the inauguration of the festivities. There were cultural events every evening to October 1 to 4, with Agomoni on Shasthi evening, kids and ladies dance programmes. On October 2, Maha Saptami, Jhankar Nights musical nights was held, in which in house singers from the society performed on stage to karaoke tunes. The much awaited Dhubuchi dance competition took place on the evening of Maha Ashtami, and as always, there was tremendous participation from the residents. Soni Singh was declared the winner of the competition, which was judged by the dynamic duo Dr. Mihir Mukherjee and his wife Ms. Rinku Mukherjee.
On Nabami morning, a fancy dress competition was held for kids aged 0-10, who were divided into 2 groups. And same day evening, Sankho dhwani and ullodhwani competition was organised.
On the afternoon of Maha Nabami, the PW Durga Puja Samiti served Bhandara for all the Wisterians. In addition, a team of our volunteers visited an old age home in Sector 45, and served bhog to all the residents there. One resident residing in the home had expressed a wish to have Durga Pujor bhog, and the team served not just her, but all the residents of the home. On the evening of Nabami, the highlight was a skit put up by the young talents of our society. Conceptualized, mentored and directed by the young guns, with a little guidance from the adults, the skit was a critique of today’s selfie culture and cancel culture, that dominate headlines.
On Bijaya Dashami, we said farewell to Maa Durga in the traditional manner with Sindoor Khela and Protima Boron, and with the chant “Aashche Bochor Aabar Hobe.”
